WCBKK WordPress Workshops for Children

In conjunction with WordCamp Bangkok 2017 and with the kind hospitality of Web Courses Bangkok we will be working with a few international volunteers to run free WordPress workshops for students on Sunday, February 19th after the conference.

The goal of the workshops is to introduce WordPress to a younger audience and to show different aspects of the software to kids who are interested in writing or developing with it.

Workshops

Introduction to WordPress (In English and Thai)

Instructor: Petya Raykovska, Senior Project manager at Human Made and WordPress Polyglots Global Communication Lead
Suitable for: Students ages 10-18 with basic internet skills interested in blogging and writing
Language: English
Duration: 3 hours
Sessions: Morning: 10am-1pm, Afternoon: 2pm-5pm.
Capacity: 15 students
Bring along: A laptop (optional)

What you will learn

  • How to set up your own personal site
  • How to publish content, text, images, video, galleries
  • How to change the way your site looks like
  • How to extend your site with more functionality

Intro to building WordPress themes (in English)

Instructor: Emanuel Blagonic, founder and designer at Croatia’s leading WordPress agency Blagonic brothers and organiser of WordCamp Croatia
Suitable for: Students from age 14+ with more than basic understanding of HTML and PHP
Capacity: 15 students
Duration: 3 hours
Sessions: Morning: 10am-1pm, Afternoon: 2pm-5pm.
Bring along: A laptop optional (If you would like to use your own computer, please install Mamp (a local server package, and WordPress)

What you will learn

  • What every WordPress theme has to have
  • How to organize files and directories
  • Understanding WordPress templates and template hierarchy
  • What is WordPress loop and how to work with custom queries
  • How to create basic templates to show your pages, posts, and homepage
  • How to supercharge your theme by adding support for plugins like ACF
